Week 4: EOC    Creating my App

“Social media make it easier than ever for people to share—to have conversations and express their opinions, needs, ideas, and complaints.” Page 105  Marketing textbook . There are so many apps that have been created over the past five yrs . I would gear my app that one could make it there own personal app that would connect to the websites that were precisely focused on people’s favorite interest. For myself my all time favorite topic is Music. I would call my app Music Wizard. This app would enable people like me who are serious music addicts tap into every avenue of music. It would tell me about the most happening bands out there and the underground bands that are hidden jewels. The Music Wizard would also link me up to every music magazine out there in the world so I can read up on what is happening in music, concerts and album revues around the world. Not only would the music wizard link me up to music journals but also connect me to other music enthusiasts and I could chat with music fans around the world. Another great thing about my Music Wizard I would love for it to even connect fans to up and coming bands and for it to be a way for fans of local bands to help promote their favorite hometown band with the world. In this day and age when MTV is no longer the strongest avenue for bands to be shown to the world via their music videos I feel an app that would share the love of big and small bands would be an excellent way to focus on talented bands to gain attention that might be lost since they don’t have a big record company or constant radio airplay to make them well known.

Week 3 EOC : My Demographics

“The Generation Xers are defined as much by their shared experiences as by their age. Increasing parental divorce rates and higher employment for their mothers made them the first generation of latchkey kids. Although they seek success, they are less materialistic; they prize experience, not acquisition. For many of the Gen Xers that are parents, family comes first—both children and their aging parents—and career second14 from a marketing standpoint, the Gen Xers are a more skeptical bunch. They tend to research products before they consider a purchase, preferring quality over quantity, and they tend to be less receptive to overt marketing pitches. Once labeled as “the MTV generation” and viewed as body-piercing slackers who whined about “McJobs,” the Gen Xers have grown up and are now taking over. They are increasingly displacing the lifestyles, culture, and values of the baby boomers. They are the most educated generation to date and they possess hefty annual purchasing power.” Page 72
I do agree with how the text book describes X generation as a mostly educated generation. For myself I have made myself more educated by making the decision to return back to school. The other thing that can be well said about x generation is that we are in the forefront of marketing and for companies of the past couple decades we have been the targeted audience who are one of the biggest consumer. Sadly it’s true about the x generation having a higher rate in divorce. Although my parents never got divorced but only briefly were separated. I regret to say but I have been divorced twice in my life and even though family values and marriage being sacred I was not able to avoid the fatal statistic of divorce being common place within my generation.  The lifestyle of an x generation I feel empowers expressionism and having owns one unique voice.
Week 3 EOC ; Making money for Good

In 2006 the Red company was founded by Bono and Bobby Shriver.” Its simple mission was to make it easy for people and businesses to join the fight against deadly Aids virus. (RED) has set out to solve the deadly problem of AIDS by getting the private sector to create a sustainable flow of money, while generating awareness around the AIDS issue. In the nearly 10yrs since ( RED) launched it has   raised $350 million and 100% of the money goes directly to work on the ground to make Aids by 2020 Aids free”.( Red ) campaign The Red organization has raised money to provide life-saving medicine which is the type that can provide medicine for HIV infected people throughout the world. Red has set up global fund for 8countries. The Global fund, the recipient of (RED) funds is a 21 st century organization designed to accelerate the end of AIDS, tuberculosis and malaria as epidemics.
I find the (RED) as a remarkable company soul goal is to work with companies such as Gap and Apple to help raise money from people suffering from AIDS. So far (RED) has helped more than 15 million people who are now on life saving ARV medication globally and out of those people more than 8.1 million people are on treatment thanks to the work (RED) set up through global funding.”  The money that has been raised by (RED) has been used to finance HIV/AIDS grants in Ghana, Kenya, Lesotho, Rwanda, South Africa, Swaziland, Tanzania, and Zambia, impacting the lives of 70million people.”(RED) campaign.
The (RED) campaign is taking on a hard fight that may or may not be resolved by their goal which is having AIDS cured by 2020 but as I have read on their website what they have accomplished in the past decade is remarkable and inspiring.

week 2: The world of the Game Market

" PlayStation as a video gaming marque, has a heritage and pedigree that requires investment, research and development along with end-user nurturing that has helped make the PlayStation One, Two, Three and now Four into successful games consoles. This, with the advent of PlayStation Now, is at risk. For those who are unware, Sony has launched a new service. The service is called PlayStation Now. It’s remit is to create a streaming game service which can be played on multiple platforms – from PS4, PS3, Televisions, Smartphones, PlayStation Vita’s and Tablets. " Playstation now is this yet another cash cow for Sony to milk? by Gareth Hunt from the Ultimate Gaming paradise website.

Since I was little I always remember my younger siblings playing on Nintendo but in 1994 when the Playstation was launched it is remarkable how long its popularity has endured. People from all ages from little kids to all the way up to 40 plus crowd it has endured the test of time. Not only over the years have the games and concepts have progressed but the dialogue within the games and the ability to play with other players via game consoles it has allowed the growth and connection between gamers throughout the world. The playstation started off as a cash cow and continues to grow each year.

"Still, this year got off to a rough start. Videogame sales plunged in January by 38% — much deeper than analysts had predicted, according to NPD data. Sales of both game hardware — including the Xbox 360 — and software were pinched by a lack of new releases for the month. " from the article X-box stands out in the slumping game market by Dan Gallagher

Even though there are so many game stations out in the market x-box is able to survive in an ever diverse and competitive gaming market. I would definitely place the x-box in the category Star . It was at one point in the question mark satis but moved into star category . It has been able to survive competing against Playstation,Wii, and nintendo 3DS portable systems.

"Sadly, Sega's grand accomplishments with Genesis would prove to be short-lived. While Genesis put up a great fight for several years, Nintendo fought to reclaim its market share little by little with key exclusives (notably Street Fighter II), graphical shenanigans (Donkey Kong Country), and simple endurance. But in the end, the blame for Sega's fall from the top rests most squarely on their own shoulders.  " -Sega Geneses 25th Anniversary : Rise and Fall of an all time great by Jeremy Parish

For 25yrs Sega was a strong force within the gaming market but in their attempt to continue to be a cash cow they sadly became a dog in the game market. The needless add ons that could be purchased to make it a better gaming system increased the price and made consumers less likely to want to purchase the system. Sega didn't keep up with the times and tried to out market themselves in an attempt to stay afloat in an ever growing and technology dependent market and fell out of touch with todays consumers.

Over the past few decades it has been interesting to see all the different game systems such as the playstaion, xbox and sega  and how much the world of the interactive games have changed from the late 70's to present and I'm curious what will happen in the future within the game market.
